“Where the Stars Still Shine” is about to break ground on building a new primary school for 97 children in the remote mountain village of Beai d’ Orange, Sud-Est, Haiti. The blue prints have been completed, volunteer contractors from the US are set to arrive in early June and the local church has already gathered ~2,000 lbs of native rocks to use for the foundation and rock pony wall. We plan to start laying the foundation by mid June and are hoping to have the school completed by September, 2011. A recent fundraiser dinner held at Brave New Restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas raised almost $20,000 for the completion of this magnificent learning facility. Humanity First Canada has also pledged to come onboard and contribute to the building of this new primary school as well. To join this worthy endeavor visit our Fundraisers page and make a specific pledge to the Haitian School Project. We are dedicated to providing educational opportunities to these mountain children so that one day they may wake up to find a brighter future that their parents could have ever imagined. In a land where less than half the children finish 6th grade it is vital that we unite today and allow these children to fulfill their dreams of receiving an education.
“Where the Stars Still Shine” is investing in Haiti’s future by providing a top-notch education to its children. We provide full scholarships (yearly tuition & uniforms) to 26 young children at the Christian Emmanuelle Primary School right next door to our Cloud Forest Medical Clinic. Finishing primary school (1st-6th grade) can be very difficult in rural Haiti, but completing secondary school (7th-12th grade) can often take a small miracle. “Where the Stars Still Shine” has chosen 8 Secondary School Scholarship Recipients to make this miracle come true. From the highly selective group of 8 students, we have a future missionary, a nurse and many doctors in the making. If these young men & women continue to follow their dreams they will have the opportunity to learn amazing skillsets which will allow them to return to the mountains of Haiti and forever revolutionize the quality of life for everyone they know.
In the spring & summer of 2010, “Where the Stars Still Shine” raised over $5000 in school supplies through the Haitian School Project. With these generous donations we were able to provide complete school kits for 350 children at the Christian Emmanuelle Primary School in Seguin. All of the children were extremely excited, for many this was the first time they had ever had their own personal crayons, rulers, eraser, notebooks, etc… The simple things our children take for granted can be a treasure beyond belief for a child who grows up with so little.
